Ideal Standard Shower Mixer
Our first client was a bathroom fittings company called Ideal Standard. They wanted us to consider sections of their tap range that they could change or have a different approach thereby making it 'Ideal' and 'Innovative'. I have created a new range of mixer taps called 'Open'.
My Ideal Standard Shower Mixer Concept, is influenced by open spaces and open plan living. Creating something innovative, I wanted to introduce aspects of colour within taps. These colour accents are something new to the tap world, colour creates personality in the product. I have also introduced subtle validated ergonomic features which do not overpower the overall tap. These features have undergone many user tests to get the best out of this product. To create the open space theme I have completely opened one end of the tap which creates space between the base and the spout to develop a sense of openness, and it also limits obstruction. The controls on the tap follow the same visual language through the shower head and holder, the tapered edges allow the user to be able to have a comfortable grip for all hand sizes and also creating design features giving character to the tap. For the components that turn i have added a slight lip that gives extra grip when slippery but also gives a clearer understanding of how they should be used. I re-invented how to change the direction of the water from the spout to the shower head. The conventional diverter method is by plunger, however I have created a twist mechanism which creates a comfortable user experience, as the user can see at a glance to where the diverter is set. |
